What does this mean?
It’s your right to be protected from abuse and harm.
There are laws in Ireland to protect children and say that children can’t be hurt or treated badly. It is your family or guardian’s job to make sure you are safe.
No one should hurt you on purpose or force you to do anything you’re not comfortable doing, like keeping secrets or anything else that makes you feel unsafe.
It is also important that children are safe online. They shouldn’t watch stuff that’s bad for them and their privacy should be protected.

The Gardaí and The Child and Family Agency (TUSLA) also work together to make sure that children are safe and cared for in Ireland.
If you’re worried about anything you should talk to someone- a parent, a teacher, or Childline (1800 666666).
If you are in danger, you should call the Gardaí on 999 or 112.

Mabel’s story
Mabel trusted her teacher so she spoke to her about how she didn’t feel safe when mammy and daddy were arguing at home. Mabel’s teacher heard her worries and said she will have to tell others, but they will try to fix this.
Mabel’s teacher spoke with TUSLA who helped her family, so Mabel’s life at home is better, and she feels safe every day, and this helps her enjoy her other rights.
