A report by the Ombudsman for Children on the operation of the Ombudsman for Children Act, 2002

The Ombudsman for Children’s Office had been fully operational for nearly 8 years and in that time we had the opportunity to reflect on the aspects of the 2002 Act that function well and those that could benefit from being enhanced or amended.

The Ombudsman for Children’s annual reports to the Oireachtas have also consistently highlighted certain deficiencies in the 2002 Act, particularly with respect to the Office’s investigatory remit. In addition to reiterating these long-standing concerns, this report sets out a number of additional aspects of the 2002 Act that could benefit from amendment.
