You are here:
What are your rights?
Rights are all the things you need to live, grow and develop to be the best person you can be!
Rights keep you safe and help you reach your potential.
They make sure you’re treated fairly and properly looked after.
They help you have a say on things that are important to you.
Every child under the age of 18 has rights, no matter who you are. You don’t have to do anything to get rights, and they can’t be taken away from you. It’s the OCO’s job to make sure you know your rights and it is the Government’s job to make sure you enjoy them.
If you’re not getting your rights, you should tell your parent(s), guardian(s) or another trusted adult. The OCO also has an important job to protect your rights if there’s a problem. We can take complaints against public services (like schools, hospitals, and social services) if they have treated children unfairly.
If a public service is not protecting your rights, and you and a trusted adult haven’t been able to fix the issue, you can get in touch with our complaints team to see if they can help.
Did you know you have the right to know about all of them?
When you know what your rights are, you can make sure that your rights are being respected and that you respect other children’s rights too!
How many rights do you think you have?
Children have 42 different rights.
They all come from the UNCRC.
