The OCO has made a submission on the Guardianship of Infants (Amendment) Bill 2025. This piece of legislation seeks to close a loophole whereby a parent convicted of killing another parent retains guardianship of their child or children.
The bill seeks to safeguard vulnerable children from further abuse, manipulation, or control by a violent parent. As such, the OCO welcomes this important piece of legislation and asks that it is strengthened to ensure respect for the voice of children and their best interests.
