Department of Education and Skills Statement of Strategy 2016-2018

The Ombudsman for Children’s Office made a submission on the Department of Education and Skills Statement of Strategy 2016-2018 on 8 June 2016

As part of this submission, the OCO stressed the importance of implementing a child rights-based approach to education and made recommendations in the following areas: Participation of children in decision-making; Early Childhood Education; Education of particularly vulnerable groups of children; Children with special educational needs; Reasonable Accommodation in Examinations for Children with Special Educational Needs; The need for reform of the education legislative framework; Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools; Bullying; Safe and Effective Participation in Digital and Social Media; and Sexual and Reproductive Health Education.
