{"id":4110,"date":"2020-09-28T10:52:38","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T10:52:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/?p=4110"},"modified":"2020-10-14T08:13:32","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T08:13:32","slug":"oco-launches-free-online-education-resource-for-schools-on-childrens-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/ga\/news\/oco-launches-free-online-education-resource-for-schools-on-childrens-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"OCO launches free online education resource for schools on Children\u2019s Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Ombudsman for Children&#8217;s Office moves education workshops online in light of Covid restrictions<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Every year, the Ombudsman for Children\u2019s Office welcomes approximately 1,400 primary and post-primary students to children\u2019s rights workshops in it\u2019s specially designed education and participation spaces in the office.<\/p>\n<p>This year, staying safe from Covid 19 has made this impossible to do. This is very disappointing for us as we really enjoy seeing children in the office and knowing that, when they leave, they have learned something more about their rights.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the Covid restrictions, we have instead developed a number of free online resources that can be used in schools by teachers and students to help them learn about their rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the work of the OCO in protecting and promoting those rights.<\/p>\n<p>These include a video presentation and accompanying teacher or self-learning notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Post-primary: screencast presentation to be used either in the classroom or at home\n<ul>\n<li>Self-learning notes for Politics and Society to accompany screencast<\/li>\n<li>Teacher notes for Senior and Junior Cycle CSPE and SPHE with activities to facilitate group learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Primary: video workshop with accompanying teachers notes and activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We hope that\u00a0these resources will help to\u00a0ensure that\u00a0children and young people don&#8217;t miss out on learning about their rights during this time.
