Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Periodic update on the Ombudsman for Children\u2019s national investigation into child protection<\/p>\n

On 20th November 2008, the Ombudsman for Children announced a systemic investigation into the implementation of Children First: National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children. The investigation is focusing on the Health Services Executive (HSE), which is the statutory agency responsible for the implementation of the Children First Guidelines and the Department of Health and Children\/Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA), which is responsible for monitoring this.<\/p>\n

The Ombudsman for Children\u2019s Office is pleased with the level of cooperation from Child Care Managers and has now received all of the information requested. Information has also been provided by the OMCYA, other professionals working in the area of child protection and members of the public. This information is substantial and is currently under examination.<\/p>\n
