{"id":1476,"date":"2017-11-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-20T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/?p=1476"},"modified":"2026-06-10T13:34:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T12:34:46","slug":"get-involved-with-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/ga\/news\/get-involved-with-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Get involved with rights!"},"content":{"rendered":"\nThe Ombudsman for Children\u2019s Office is offering children, young people and those who work directly with young people a range of ways to get involved with rights.\n<ol>\n \t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/un-convention\/celebrating-25-years-of-the-uncrc\/projects-we-are-working-on\/\">Take part in our national \u2018Act Your Rights Drama\u2019 competition<\/a>.<\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/un-convention\/celebrating-25-years-of-the-uncrc\/projects-we-are-working-on\/\">Enter our \u2018Get Animated about Rights\u2019 national animation competition<\/a>.<\/li>\n \t<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/education-materials\/\">Use our brand new, interactive lesson plans with your students in both primary and post primary schools<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/un-convention\/celebrating-25-years-of-the-uncrc\/projects-we-are-working-on\/\">\u2018Act Your Rights Drama\u2019<b><\/b><\/a><\/h2>\nThe \u2018Act Your Rights Drama\u2019 competition forms part of our 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary celebration of Ireland\u2019s Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child!\n\nTo take part, complete the \u2018Act Your Rights\u2019 sessions, follow the \u2018Make an Act Your Rights drama\u2019 activity and create a short drama piece (10 mins max).\n\nThree overall winning dramas will be selected by a panel of judges from the OCO and Abbey for \u2018best ensemble\u2019, \u2018best script\u2019 and \u2018best direction\u2019 and <strong>children will get to perform the winning pieces on stage in the Abbey Theatre<\/strong>.\n\nTo take part, simply email a 3 minute \u2018taster\u2019 clip to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:rightscompetition@abbeytheatre.ie\">rightscompetition@<wbr \/>abbeytheatre.ie<\/a>\u00a0along with a short summary of the plot by 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0March 2018.\n\n\u2018Act your Rights\u2019 is a joint collaboration between the OCO and The Abbey Theatre.\u00a0 A new free online resource, it offers a unique and creative way to begin rights conversations with primary students from 4<sup>th<\/sup>-6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0class.\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/un-convention\/celebrating-25-years-of-the-uncrc\/projects-we-are-working-on\/\">Take part in our exciting \u2018Get Animated about Rights\u2019 competition!<b><\/b><\/a><\/h2>\nTo celebrate the 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary of Ireland\u2019s Ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the OCO has teamed up with Ireland\u2019s top animators to invite children and young people to create an image of the children\u2019s rights that means most to them.\n\nFive winning original artworks will be chosen by our judges from Cartoon Saloon, Kavaleer Productions, Mooshku and pinkkong studios to be animated and shown on our website.\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/childrens-rights\/education-materials\/\">Get interactive in class with our brand new education resources \u2013 Making Children\u2019s Rights Real<\/a><\/h2>\nOur new resource materials which will support teachers and educators in both primary and post-primary schools focus implementing an action for children\u2019s rights.\n\nResources are adapted to cater for all age groups.
