Statement by the Ombudsman for Children on the publication of the report by the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children<\/p>\n

Today represents a new beginning in terms of the relationship between the Irish State and all children living in this country.<\/p>\n

I commend the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children and its Chair Mary O\u2019Rourke TD for this major achievement.<\/p>\n

The Committee has demonstrated that advocacy for children is not the preserve of those of us working directly with children and that all sectors of Irish society can make a difference in children\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

I look forward to the Irish people having the opportunity to consider the proposed amendment later this year.<\/p>\n
