Children under 18 are currently not entitled to the National Minimum Wage. Instead they are entitled to a sub-minimum rate, which amounts to 70% of the National Minimum Wage. The Low Pay Commission is examining the retention or removal of sub-minimum rates of the National Minimum Wage and will make recommendations to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. In July 2023, the OCO made a submission to the Low Pay Commission\u2019s consultation on retaining or removing the sub-minimum rates of the National Minimum Wage.
