{"id":3689,"date":"2019-10-30T12:11:18","date_gmt":"2019-10-30T12:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/?post_type=library&#038;p=3689"},"modified":"2019-10-30T12:11:18","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T12:11:18","slug":"freedom-of-information-act","status":"publish","type":"library","link":"https:\/\/www.oco.ie\/ga\/library\/freedom-of-information-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Freedom of Information Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Freedom of Information Act 1997\u00a0(FOI Act) as amended by the\u00a0Freedom of Information (Amendment) Act 2003\u00a0obliged government departments, the Health Service Executive (HSE), local authorities and a range of other public bodies to publish information on their activities and to make the information that they held, including personal information, available to citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Freedom of Information Act 2014\u00a0came into effect in October 2014 and repealed the 1997 and 2003 Acts. The 2014 Act introduced a number of changes to the Freedom of Information system and widened the range of bodies to which the FOI legislation applies &#8211; it now applies to all public bodies, unless they are specifically exempt.
