What must you do before we can examine a school related complaint?

Before this Office examines a school complaint, we must be satisfied that the school has had a sufficient opportunity to resolve the matter.

Sometimes this involves redirecting you back to the school complaint procedures so that this can occur.

In any case, schools have usually a Board of Management. It is important that you put your concerns, if you can, in writing, to the Board to give them an opportunity to address your concerns, before you come to this Office.

It is important that your complaint to the school sets out clearly the complaint that you wish to make and the effect the action may have had on the child concerned.
