Statement from the Ombudsman for Children on the Death of Brian Lenihan TD

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Brian Lenihan TD this morning.
"From 2002 to 2007 Brian Lenihan served as Minister for Children, during which time the Ombudsman for Children’s Office was established.
"Brian Lenihan’s contribution to the development of a greater understanding of the rights and needs of children, and indeed to the development of the Office of the Ombudsman for Children, was very positive and very considerable. As Minister for Children, Brian Lenihan was forward-thinking and very determined. During his tenure as Minister for Children he brought forward legislation in a range of areas which benefit children to this day and will continue into the future.
I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife and children, and to his wider family, on their loss.”
