Statement on the report by the Joint Committee on Constitutional Amendment on Children

16/02/2010

Statement on the report by the Joint Committee on Constitutional Amendment on Children

16th February 2010

Statement by the Ombudsman for Children on the publication of the report by the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children

Today represents a new beginning in terms of the relationship between the Irish State and all children living in this country.

I commend the Joint Committee on the Constitutional Amendment on Children and its Chair Mary O’Rourke TD for this major achievement.

The Committee has demonstrated that advocacy for children is not the preserve of those of us working directly with children and that all sectors of Irish society can make a difference in children’s lives.

I look forward to the Irish people having the opportunity to consider the proposed amendment later this year.
